Each person picks a piece. Cardboard die, playing card, pawn, or domino. Over monochrome black or white clothes. About forty-five minutes, a medium build: monochrome clothes, large cardboard boxes, and white and black acrylic paint. Keep every piece to two colors max; restraint reads as design.

Steps

  1. Each person picks a game piece to be.
  2. Sketch each piece on the cardboard before cutting.
  3. Cut a cube shape from a large box for the die.
  4. Measure the head first.
  5. Cut the opening small, then widen.
  6. Cut flat boards from another box for the card and the domino.
  7. Paint the die and card white and the domino black.
  8. Let the paint dry fully.
  9. Add dots and card symbols with the marker.
  10. Safety: Cut the die box eye holes generously so you can see clearly. Only wear the die box once all paint is fully dry. (CPSC Halloween safety tips)
  11. Tape ribbon straps to the flat boards.
  12. Hang the boards front and back over plain clothes.
  13. Wear the die box over the head with the eye holes lined up.
  14. Optional pro finish: paint a thin gold border around the card and domino edges.

Common questions

Which game pieces are easiest to recognize?

The die (white cube, black dots), a playing card (white board, big red heart), and a domino (black board, white dots). Pick pieces with strong silhouettes.

How do flat boards stay on?

Tape ribbon straps to the top corners so they hang front and back like a sandwich board over the monochrome clothes. Two straps, not one, so nothing spins.
