Tip: add a small INSERT COIN label under each number with a fabric marker.

Steps

  1. Put a big 1 on the front and back of one t-shirt with the iron-on letters.
  2. Put a big 2 on the front and back of the other t-shirt.
  3. Safety: Let an adult handle the hot iron on a hard surface.
  4. Pin or tape the letters to the shirts first.
  5. Check them in a mirror.
  6. Do this before heating the iron.
  7. Ironed letters cannot be moved.
  8. Iron the letters onto the t-shirts, an adult on the iron.
  9. Or draw the letters with the fabric markers.
  10. Each player wears their numbered t-shirt and carries a toy controller.
  11. Walk in together, controllers up.
  12. Argue all evening about who is really player one.
  13. Optional pro finish: add a small INSERT COIN label under each number with a fabric marker.

Common questions

No iron, what is the best alternative?

Fabric markers, drawn big. Iron-on looks cleaner but marker numbers survive the night fine, and you can skip the whole adult-with-a-hot-iron step.

How big should the numbers be?

Chest-filling: about 8 inches tall on an adult shirt, 5 inches on a kid shirt. Numbers smaller than that disappear in group photos.
