One khaki ranger, one green dino hood, and the ranger holds the leash. The leash is the relationship. About twenty-five minutes, easy: a khaki shirt and hat, a green hoodie or t-shirt, and a green felt sheet. The ranger should look mildly concerned at all times.

Tip: tie the rope as a belt around the ranger's waist and clip a toy walkie-talkie to it.

Steps

  1. Decide who is the ranger and who is the raptor.
  2. Lay out both outfits.
  3. Buy the rope or toy dog leash and the face paint if needed.
  4. Safety: Cut the green felt sheet slowly and keep fingers clear of the scissors.
  5. Draw the tail shape on the felt first.
  6. Hold it up to the raptor's back to check the length before cutting.
  7. Cut one long triangle from the felt for the tail.
  8. Tape the tail to the back of the raptor's green shirt.
  9. The ranger wears the khaki shirt and hat, leash in hand.
  10. The raptor wears the green shirt with the tail.
  11. Safety: Use non-toxic kids face paint, and skip any mask so the raptor can see clearly. (CPSC Halloween safety tips)
  12. Paint the raptor's snout with green face paint.
  13. Add two black dots for nostrils.
  14. The ranger holds the leash out toward the raptor for photos.
  15. Optional pro finish: tie the rope as a belt around the ranger's waist and clip a toy walkie-talkie to it.

Common questions

How long should the leash be?

Keep the leash short, about 2 to 3 feet, so the toy dinosaur does not drag on the ground. Tie the wrist end in a loop so it cannot tighten.

What face paint is safe for kids?

Use non-toxic kids face paint and skip any mask so the raptor can see clearly. Keep paint off the lips and wash it off the same night.
