A blue hoodie and an antenna headband with pipe-cleaner stalks and pom-pom tips. The ears do all the work. Thirty minutes, easy: a blue hoodie per alien, blue pipe cleaners, and blue pom-poms. Bend the antennae outward at different angles so they look alive.

Still need:
Tip: twist each pipe cleaner into a loose zigzag before adding the pom-pom.
Steps
- Wrap each headband in blue tape.
- Twist two blue pipe cleaners around the top of each headband.
- Bend each tip into a small curl.
- Tape one blue pom-pom to the tip of each pipe cleaner.
- Safety: Under 3: skip the pom-pom antennae, toddlers can pull them off and they are a choking hazard. The blue hoodie alone carries the costume. (CPSC Halloween safety tips)
- Pull on the blue hoodies.
- Lilo: cut leaf shapes from the white felt or paper.
- Pin or glue the leaves across the red t-shirt or dress.
- Safety: Pin from the front of the red shirt, so pin backs face the fabric and never the skin.
- Wear dark hair down for Lilo.
- Put the antenna headbands on the aliens last.
- Optional pro finish: twist each pipe cleaner into a loose zigzag before adding the pom-pom.

Common questions
How do you keep the antennae from flopping?
Twist each pipe cleaner around the headband twice at the base before standing it up, the double wrap is the anchor. Then tape over the twist. Pipe cleaner alone flops by hour two; the tape wrap locks it.
What if we only have one blue hoodie?
Make the second alien a different blue: navy t-shirt plus blue face paint on the arms. The antenna headbands match, so the pair still reads.
