A green tunic with a bumpy texture and a smug grin. The grin is the costume, the bumps are the garnish. Thirty minutes, easy: a green tunic or oversized t-shirt, green bubble wrap or pom-poms, and fabric glue. The smugger the grin, the better the pickle.

Steps

  1. Lay all the bumps on the tunic dry first.
  2. Step back and check.
  3. Glue the bumps all over the front and back of the tunic.
  4. Space them in a loose grid so no bare patches show.
  5. Let the fabric glue dry flat for 30 minutes.
  6. Paint the face.
  7. Draw on a smug grin with one raised eyebrow.
  8. Wear the tunic over regular clothes.
  9. Stand tall.
  10. Optional pro finish: add a darker green felt band at the top and bottom of the tunic.

Common questions

Bubble wrap or pom-poms for the bumps?

Pom-poms look better and stay put; bubble wrap pops when people hug you and goes flat by midnight. If you use bubble wrap, pop it yourself first for a dimpled texture that lasts.

How much of the face should be green?

Full face in a light layer, keeping it clear of the eyes. A half-green face reads as sick; a full light-green face with a smug grin reads as pickle.
